Haseldorfer Marsh & Wedel
Wedeler Au Regional Park & Elbmarschenhaus
Wedel lies just outside Hamburg, and is directly accessible from the city by suburban train. The seaside town draws visitors thanks to its lively cultural life, as well as two Elbe beaches with fine sand perfect for building sand castles, its world-renowned ship welcoming station, and one of the largest yacht harbours in Europe. Nearly 32,000 people live here, in a setting that could not be more varied.
The Wedeler Au Regional Park, in which Wedel itself is located, stretches across borders from Haseldorfer Marsh into the west of Hamburg, and offers a fascinating diversity of unique landscapes. These include the marsh itself, as well as moors, inland dunes, heaths, forests, and plains. The famous Carl Zeiss Birdwatching Station is also a popular destination in the Wedeler Au Regional Park.
The Elbmarschenhaus is a central starting point for exploring the picturesque Haseldorfer Elbe marshes, and serves both as a tourist information centre and as a venue for special exhibitions by regional artists. It also has a permanent exhibition about the nature and habitat of the Elbe marshes.
